on generalizing
so far, a trend (and big problem) I've noticed while writing this blog is the tension between my own insecurities and how I've projected them onto "society". I really do think of fat stigmatization as a systematic problem with which many can relate - the proof lies in the sheer number of both fatosphere blogs and diet-related everything in the world around me that reinforces my fears. In the meantime, I'll try to find the fine line in between the two - to ensure that this blog is both personal and relatable but still, if not rigorous, then at least honest.

Well Ms. Ally, I'm not sure there is a fine between your insecurities and society. I think it is fair to say that a lot (if not all) of your concerns about your body come from the anti-fat social discourse you're addressing in this blog. I do think that there is an interesting question to be asked about taking responsibility for our own anti-fat bias or fears. We can recognize fashion magazines, diet pills, our friends and families as sources but where do we go from there?
ReplyDeleteOh, Ms. AJC, proving once again that you are not only my wonderful ally but an ally to all feminists everywhere. I'll have to address this comment in a future post.
